The process for making the bridge superstructure for the 1:96 scale Liberty Ship model. The vector line drawings are created in 2D. The 2D line drawings are laser cut from .040" styrene sheet, and the parts assembled.
As an option, the individual parts can be extruded to a thickness, in this case .040", using the CAD software. The pieces are then assembled in 3D to create the 3D line drawing or render for a solid model. The 3D drawings can also be used to create assembly or exploded views for construction manuals.
The same process was used to laser cut parts for the rest of the ship model for the deck, cargo holds, fore and aft gun emplacements.

drawing is then rendered as in the photo for the 3D Bridge.
